Job description Position overview Reporting to the Our Watch Manager, Government Member Relations & Systems Change, the Advisor, Government Relations supports Our Watch’s engagement with governments at all levels, with a particular focus on supporting relationships with Commonwealth, state and territory governments as members of Our Watch. The role will develop specialised knowledge of one or more jurisdictions and provide practical support to senior colleagues to help maintain collaborative, multipartisan relationships aligned with Our Watch’s evidence base and strategic priorities. The Advisor works closely with colleagues across Our Watch – including embedded Advisors in jurisdictions – to support coordinated national engagement to prevent violence against women. Due to the multipartisan way Our Watch operates, and the potential for perceived conflicts of interest, it is a requirement of this role that the incumbent is not intimately involved in political party activities and/or decision making. Responsibilities and accountabilities Government monitoring and support Assist in monitoring and analysing relevant government and parliamentary processes across all Australian jurisdictions, including elections, budgets, policy announcements, government plans and strategies and Parliamentary debates and inquiries. Identify opportunities for Our Watch to engage with government processes in line with the Our Watch evidence base and organisational priorities. Support the implementation of Our Watch government relations strategies and action plans. Provide timely information and analysis to support senior advisors and managers. Government relations and member support Support engagement with Commonwealth, state and territory governments as members of Our Watch, including preparation of briefs, correspondence and meeting materials. Assist with maintaining consistent, evidence-based messaging across jurisdictions. Support coordination of jurisdictional information and engagement activity. Collaboration and communication Work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues across Our Watch to provide advice and support on government processes and priorities. Contribute to whole-of-organisation coordination related to government engagement. Ensure work is aligned with the Our Watch evidence base and organisational strategy. Reporting Provide regular updates and support to Senior Advisors and the Manager, Government Member Relations & Systems Change. Undertake other duties as required.
